Damascus is the capital of Syria. It was not destroyed during the war like other cities. During my trip in 2022, the street market (souq) felt lively with its many people. I liked the Umayyad Mosque with its colorful murals and the reflective floor of the courtyard. Worth seeing was the National Museum of Syria with only a small exhibition open so far after the war. A traditional Turkish bath (hammam) rounded off my stay.
